LIONS TOP HOLY SPIRIT 28–14

Monsignor Farrell opened the 2026 season with a statement.

Facing Holy Spirit of New Jersey in the annual Battle at the Beach Football Classic, the Lions traveled to Carey Stadium in Ocean City and came away with an impressive 28–14 victory, beginning the new campaign 1–0.

It was exactly the kind of start Farrell wanted — a physical interstate matchup, a showcase atmosphere and an opportunity to prove that last season's success was only the beginning.

FARRELL TAKES CONTROL

The Lions entered the season with expectations after finishing 9–2 and reaching the CHSFL AAA Championship Game in 2025.

Against Holy Spirit, Farrell looked ready for the challenge.

The Lions produced a balanced offensive attack behind quarterback Bryce Moye and running back Jayden Burch, while the Farrell defense held the Spartans to just 14 points.

Burch provided the power on the ground, rushing for 167 yards and helping Farrell control the tempo of the game.

Moye delivered through the air, throwing for 178 yards and three touchdowns, giving the Lions the explosive passing attack they will need as the schedule gets tougher.

WINNING AWAY FROM HOME

Opening a season on the road is never easy.

Opening against a respected New Jersey program in one of the region's premier early-season showcases makes the challenge even greater.

Farrell answered it.

The victory continued an impressive stretch of road success for the Lions and provided an early indication that this year's team is prepared to compete outside the familiar surroundings of Amboy Road.

More importantly, Farrell leaves Ocean City with something every championship contender wants:

A 1–0 start.

A STRONG FIRST STEP

One game won't define the 2026 Lions.

But it can establish a tone.

Farrell showed the ability to run the football, create explosive plays through the air and play the kind of physical defense that has become a hallmark of the program.

For a team with championship aspirations, Saturday's performance represented a strong first step.

The Lions went to the Jersey Shore.

They faced a quality opponent.

And they came home with a win.

NEXT UP: ST. PETER'S

Now the attention turns back to Staten Island.

Monsignor Farrell will play its 2026 home opener Friday, September 4 at 5:00 PM, welcoming St. Peter's to Coach Dennis Barrett Stadium for an all-Staten Island matchup.

The Lions return to Amboy Road with momentum.
